What is the Diverse BookFinder?
The Diverse BookFinder is a comprehensive collection of children’s and young adult books featuring Black and Indigenous Peoples and People of Color (BIPOC). We’ve cataloged and analyzed picture books fitting this criteria since 2002 and have added early readers, chapter books, middle grade, and young adult novels published since 2022.

Our Resources
We’ve cataloged and analyzed thousands of BIPOC books published or distributed in the U.S. to increase their visibility and to create a one of a kind resource that includes: 1) a Unique Searchable Collection; 2) a Source of Critical Data; 3) a Collection Analysis Tool (CAT); and 4) a Blog featuring a range of content curated by the DBF team.
Search the Collection
We offer a first of its kind freely searchable database that makes it easier for anyone to discover and explore children’s and young adult literature featuring Black, Indigenous Peoples, and People of Color (BIPOC) characters and their stories.
Explore Our Data
We provide real-time data on children’s and young adult books featuring BIPOC characters, examining who is depicted in the books, how they are represented, and what messages their stories send. We hope an exploration of our data will enable deeper conversation and change.
Collection Analysis Tool (CAT)
We developed a free, online tool designed to help users analyze youth collections of all sizes. The CAT can help reveal the strengths and gaps in the racial/cultural representation within collections.
Diverse BookFinder Blog
We curate and post the latest themed book lists, author/illustrator interviews, news and trends in youth literature with insightful posts from the Diverse BookFinder team and guest contributors.
