We’ve crossed this finish line! With the aid of a large award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) we are excited and proud to launch the rebranded and expanded Diverse BookFinder!
We have now added early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, middle grade, and young adult novels published since 2022 to our searchable database.
Now the DBF can grow with our users!

What’s New:
New Branding & Website Design – Our new branding and website reflect our audience through its friendly and professional design. With a focus on accessibility, the website is now compatible with screen readers and keyboard navigation, and includes alternative text associated with images.
Expanded Title Collection – We now collect titles for a wider variety of youth audiences including early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, and middle grade & young adult novels. Read more on Our Collection page.
New & Expanded Search Filters – With over 200 new tags that describe the content and characters in each book, there are more ways than ever to find the materials that speak to readers and discover the broad range of published literature for children and youth featuring BIPOC characters. Try all our new filters when you Search The Collection.
Creator Lived Experience – Knowing about a book’s creators can help us think about the accuracy and authenticity of the representations we find within the book. We now include a tag detailing the creators’ identities and experiences, when available. Learn all about this tag and more on Our Tags page.
Recommended Reads – Our non-curated collection includes all literature for children and youth featuring BIPOC characters published in the US. Now our users can visit the Recommended Reads page to access expertly curated lists of books on specific cultures, trends, and themes, and resources for evaluating the quality of diverse books.
With these new features and the expanded collection, the Diverse BookFinder grows our contributions to the ongoing movement towards inclusivity, equity, and social justice by ensuring that our users have access to authentic and diverse narratives.
